How to Choose Your Wedding Photographer

Are you getting married in Vancouver? Who will be your Vancouver wedding photographer? Choosing the right photographer is one of the most important aspects of planning your wedding. Documenting the special moments in your life is an investment in your future. After all, once the cake has been eaten, the guests have all gone home and the dress is put away – what you will have left to remember on your special day is the photographs. This day only happens once in a lifetime so choose the right person to document it for you.

Here is a list of some of the things you should consider when choosing your Vancouver wedding photographer.

When selecting a wedding photographer you are selecting more than just a photographer for your wedding day. You are hiring a wedding photographer that will be with you, your family and your group all day on your wedding day. Personality is a huge part of the selection process and should not be overlooked or discounted in any way.

Your wedding photographer’s personality can set the tone for your entire wedding day and your bridal party. Ultimately it can impact your wedding photography altogether. You will more than likely be working with your wedding photographer for a year, or longer in some cases, by the time you factor in your engagement session and post wedding photography and albums.

While price is always a factor when selecting your Vancouver wedding photographer, it should not be the only thing that matters. All too often we hear horror stories from brides who made a decision for their wedding photography based purely on price. It turns out to be foolish in the end. When it’s all said and done, your wedding photography will be all you have to remember your wedding day.

What will you do with all your images from your wedding photographer? Most people opt to place them in a beautifully designed wedding album that your wedding photographer should provide you with. Don’t underestimate the importance of a wedding album from your wedding day. This is your first family heirloom and your one keepsake you will have forever to remember your Vancouver wedding.

When selecting a wedding photographer you should look for an album that best represents you and your new family. Wedding albums come in all shapes and sizes.

Questions you should ask your Vancouver wedding photographer

1) How many pages come in the wedding album?

2) How many images will be in the wedding album?

3) What leather options are available for my wedding album?

Something often overlooked when selecting a wedding photographer is the number of hours that will be offered during the coverage of your Vancouver wedding. Typically you will want your wedding photographer to be with you to document all the moments of your wedding day. After all, that’s what you are hiring them for. That being said, typical coverage requirements for your wedding day should be about 8-10 hours.

Be careful here. Some Vancouver wedding photographers offer cut-rate prices by offering you less than adequate wedding coverage for your day. These become hidden costs and once you realize it, it’s often too late.

How many photographers will be at your event? Most events need at least two wedding photographers. This ensures that your wedding photographer is focused on working with your group and directing the day and allows the second wedding photographer to have coverage going on at the same time.

We find that by having two Vancouver wedding photographers at your event, your wedding photography needs can best be met all while ensuring that nothing gets missed from your big day.

We are really excited to be chosen to shoot TEDxVancouver tomorrow!

Tomorrow will be a big day as we prepare to shoot TEDxVancouver , the largest TEDxVancouver event yet.  The event this year takes place at the historic Queen Elizabeth Theatre (650 Hamilton Street) in downtown Vancouver. Doors will open at 8am, with the show starting at 9am and ending at 6pm.  This years theme is “TILT” and we will be hearing 12 talks that will gear us to “TILT” our perspective on the world.  After seeing all the amazing artistic acts tonight at our run through, I know it will certainly be an event you don’t want to miss!

Lucas and Larissa’s engagement

I first met Lucas as a child and was really excited to find out that he had finally met the woman of his dreams. What was even more exciting was when they asked me to be their wedding photographer. In discussing what they wanted for their engagement session, we decided that Vancouver was the place despite the fact they live in Kelowna. We knew I would be shooting their wedding in the Okanagan in only a few short months so they wanted something a little different from their wedding photography. we chose Jericho beach because it had meaning to them. Thank you Lucas and Larissa for an amazing day!

Nathan and Danielle

This summer I had the incredible experience of shooting 2 weddings, two weeks apart, and the brides were sisters! When Danielle and Nathan first came to me to shoot their wedding, I absolutely fell in love with them. I knew the second I met them that it was a match! We had an amazing time during their engagement session and then soon after, their wedding. Their ceremony was held at Holy Rosary Cathedral and we chose various places in East Vancouver for their creatives. Their reception was held at the Italian cultural centre where many of their guests came all the way from Italy to be a part of this amazing event.

Vancouver event photographer for Bethenny Frankel’s Skinnygirl margarita launch

I was super excited to learn I was chosen to be the event photographer for the launch of Bethenny Frankel’s Skinny girl margarita.  For those of you who aren’t a fan of talk shows or reality TV, Bethenny Frankel is an American reality television personality, former talk show host, author, and an entrepreneur (and also one of the richest women in the world, being on the cover of Fortune magazine).  Though it was one of our more challenging shoots, working with a number of Bethanny’s assistants who all felt she would want different things (and in all honesty, it is not every day I am working with one of the most famous women in America) it was an incredible experience.  It was amazing to see how many people were out to meet Bethenny, people rushing out as far as Hope BC, and stopping at the mall on the way, in order to buy her daughter, Bryn a gift ..only to find out they JUST missed her as she had to go catch her flight, with a stop at Holt Renfrew along the way to the airport.;)  The event was in 2 parts, both held at my favourite local wine shop, Legacy liquor store (they have a fabulous selection of amazing wines by the way;) and in the afternoon we were at a downtown BC liquor store location.
